Music from Jewish Gateways Virtual High Holiday Services
Played and sung by musician Joel Siegel, joined by Jewish Gateways participants Cheryl Cleary, Sarah Williams, and Scott Williams
Our High Holiday services for 2020 • 5781 had to be held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. To help us feel more connected, even though we weren't together in person, musician Joel Siegel, and three Jewish Gateways participants, pre-recorded a few of the songs we sing at High Holidays so we could listen and sing along with them during the services.
You can find each song, along with its words, below -- just click on the song titles to access the recordings.
Or, you can listen to or download the entire playlist to enjoy as you drive, wash the dishes, exercise ... or whenever you'd like.
1. Hinay Ma Tov
Hinay mah tov u-mah nayim shevet achim gam yachad.
הִנֵּה מַה טּוֹב וּמַה נָעִים שֶבֶת אַחִים גַם יָחַד
[How good and lovely it is for people to be together.]
2. Return Again / Hashiveinu: one of the major themes of the High Holidays
Return again, return again, return to the land of your soul (2X)
Return to who you are
Return to what you are
Return to where you are
Born and reborn again.
Return again, return again, return to the land of your soul.
by Shlomo Carlebach
Hashiveinu Adonai eilecha v'nashuva. Chadesh yameinu k'kedem.
הֲשִׁיבֵנוּ יהוה אֵלֶיךָ וְנָשׁוּבָה חַדֵשׁ יָמֵינוּ כְּקֶדֶם
[Return us, Eternal One, let us return! Renew our days, as You have done of old.]
3. L’shanah Tova Tikateyvu (Happy New Year!)
L’shanah tovah tikateyvu, l’shanah tovah tikateyvu
Tikateyvu v’tichateymu.
L’shanah tovah tikateyvu, l’shanah tovah tikateyvu
Have a good new year, a sweet new year.
לְשָׁנָה טוֹבָה תִכָּתֵבוּ, לְשָׁנָה טוֹבָה תִכָּתֵבוּ, תִכָּתֵבוּ וְתֵּחָתֵמוּ
[May you be written and sealed for a good year.]
