Celebrate Shabbat

Join Us to Receive the Gift of Shabbat

It's easy to lose track of what matters most, whether we are caught up in the hassles of daily life, stressed by the news, or facing life's challenges.

Shabbat, which is celebrated from sundown on Friday evening to sundown on Saturday evening, literally means “stop." It is a time to unplug from daily pressures so we can connect with what is most important in life.

Light candles, sing, enjoy wine or juice, challah, a vegetarian meal, and meaningful conversation. You don’t need to be Jewish or familiar with Jewish tradition to draw on the riches of Shabbat!

On Friday evenings on which we are not gathering for an in-person Shabbat, join us at 6:00 pm PT online by Zoom for candle lighting and blessings over wine or juice and challah, or whatever you have! No experience is necessary, and all are welcome. Feel free to invite friends and family.

Tu B'Shvat Community Shabbat
Friday, January 30 • 6:00-8:00 pm
Oakland

Join us for a warm community Shabbat as we celebrate Tu B’Shvat, the Jewish “birthday of the trees.” We’ll share Shabbat blessings, enjoy a vegetarian potluck, and take part in a mystically inspired Tu B’Shvat seder featuring fruits, nuts, and wine or juice to reflect on nature, seasons, and growth.

The seder is planned for adults, with older children welcome to participate (no specific children’s programming).

Suggested contribution: $15–30, offered on a sliding scale. Contributions help support our gathering space and shared seder supplies, including fruit and wine. If cost would be a barrier, please reach out to Stephanie at stephanie@jewishgateways.org—no one is turned away due to cost.
